Reflective Report 5
Friday 15th April was my fifth day volunteering to coach soccer to the girls at Eastside Elementary School. I did the usual signing myself in at the front desk then I went outside to the field to set up mini pitches to play the tournament with all the girls. Once I had set this up about five minutes later everyone had come outside to talk with me. The teacher split all the up into teams for me so I didn’t have to do that part. I made sure they all had a different colored bib so they knew what team they were on.
I got everyone together to take part in a warm up. There was a lot of girls all together to do a warm up so it was a tiny bit hectic. Everyone was running around crazy which caused these two girls to bang heads. Once I took them away from everyone else and they got a drink of water they were okay to continue the warm up drill. The warm up drill was called cat and mouse so there was a few girls that got given a tail (the cats) and they had to chase everyone else. If the mouse got caught by the cat then they had to sit out and do bear crawls for a minute then go back and play. I rotated the cats and the mice so everyone got a turn. When everyone had warmed up the got ready to play the tournament. Every team made up their own team name and I wrote it down on a piece of paper so I could keep track of who won or lost a game. It was sort of like a table so if you won your game you would stay on the pitch but if you lost you would move down a pitch. Everyone had fun but I made sure it was not to do with who came first and who came last it was all about taking part and remembering the techniques we had been using. They were given a quiz at the end of the tournament which had questions like, “what part of the foot should you use when passing the ball?” or “what should you do before you shoot the ball?”. Everyone did extremely well on the quiz.
I think today went extremely well because everyone had fun and they all seemed happy to be playing soccer. Hopefully I can continue to coach these girls even though I have all the hours I need for my Education 2110 class.
