Procedures:

 Introduction:

Students are learning about life in America after World War II. They will learn about how life in Georgia was affected by the boll weevil and drought while all of America went through the Great Depression. By the end of this lesson, they should be able to tell each other about the economy of Georgia after WWII and at least two factors of the economy that led to the Great Depression.

 Demonstration:

I will first ask the students what makes up the economy and go over that with them. They will write this in their binders.  I will then go over a PowerPoint with the class and point out some key facts. I will have them tell a partner some economic factors that led to the Great Depression.  They will share with the class. I will then narrow it down to Georgia and the cotton industry. I will explain the importance of cotton and what the boll weevil did to it.

 Guided Practice:

I will have them fill out a handout that had a story from the Great Depression. They will do this with a partner. After they are done we will go over it on the board.

 Independent Practice:

Each student will be required to answer the following:

What are two economic factors that led to the Great Depression?

What effects did the boll weevil and drought have on the economy of Georgia?

Why was cotton so important to Georgia’s economy?

 Closing:

I will go over the questions with the class. If there are any questions I will answer them. We will have a short review key information from the lesson and make sure they have it in their notes to study.

Assessment:

Throughout the lesson, I will be evaluating whether the students are learning the information. They will have to be able to answer all he independent practice questions without my help to master this lesson.

Describe special adaptations/modifications:

If any student needs special help, I will be available. I will have partners assigned to students with disabilities that need it and will evaluate them differently than the rest if need be. Independent practice will be spent with me helping them remember the information.

Anticipated instructional/behavior problems:

There may be a noise issue with the class but I can move the students around easily if it becomes a problem. If there are any big behavioral issues, I will remove them from the class and set the students to the independent questions to see to this student. The student will have additional instructional time with me to catch up.
