I learned a lot from doing this paper. It let me see what things and people that truly make me, me. I think overall this paper was a good learning experience and something I enjoyed doing. I'm actually ready to see what my peers have to say on their papers.
There are many things that make me the way I am. My name is Courtney Jowers. The most important things in my life include: family, friends, and my faith. Those three things are what have shaped me into the person I am today. I have a strong belief that the people who you are around and raised with are the people that are going to shape the kind of person that you will become. I have had the privilege of having two wonderful parents who love and support me no matter what. They have done everything possible to make sure I have been raised in a home where I don’t have to worry financially and who make sure that I put my faith before anything.
I was raised in Douglas, GA for most all of my childhood. I moved to Blackshear, GA when I was around 12. I was raised a Christian. We went to church on Wednesday night and then going again Sunday morning for Sunday school and then big church. Most of my childhood was spent with family. I’m a big family person; I was blessed to have such an amazing family. Every Sunday was a time spent with the family; it either meant grilling out after church, going fishing, watching a sports event on the T.V, or just sitting on the front porch.
Holidays were very dear to my heart. We always make huge importance on Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and the Fourth of July. Thanksgiving was a time where all the family members came together to give thanks, and a time where we get to eat the best foods also. My favorite holiday however is Christmas. Christmas meant putting up the tree, making decorations, presents, family time, and great food. The most important thing about Christmas is celebrating Jesus’ birthday. Easter was always spent going to my grandma’s church and then going back to her house to have lunch and have an Easter egg hunt. The last holiday we spent a big deal on is the fourth of July. We always make the fourth of July a week to spend at the beach and celebrate. Holidays were always my favorite. It means extra time with the whole family.
One other thing I want to talk about is my Faith. I always believed that you need something to believe in, for me that is God. I have a very deep relationship with God. I’ve grown up in the church and I will always love and obey God. Something that makes me different from other Christians is that I’m a lot less judgmental. As a Christian you grow up having to believe this and that makes you a bad person or that’s what is not going to get you in heaven. I believe that everyone makes mistakes and it’s not up to us to decide whether or not one sin is any worse than the other. The only person that can judge anyone is God. I strive to be the best I can be for God, I know that he would never want me to give hate or be mean to someone different from me. I feel it’s my job to share to others that no matter what you do or say God will always love you and accept you.
One last thing I want to talk about is an experience I went through that has made me the person I am today. Not too long ago my grandmother passed away. Losing someone very near and dear to your heart can either make or break you. For me, it helped me open my eyes and appreciate life so much more than I did. I value every day on this earth and I make sure to appreciate every person I am around. You never know when it could be someone’s last die. I think the main thing that really changed for me from that loss is that I started to see the world in a much different way. I chose to give God most of my time, I started being more loving, I just completely changed my whole life around. I think because of her passing I became a stronger person. It has helped me to deal with life situations that I thought I could never be able to face. I thank God every day for giving me obstacles like that to make me stronger and better.
