Poverty Paper
I have personally been through an experience so I know how it feels and what it feels like to go through poverty. My family back in the day have had more problems with poverty and I guess thats where my poverty now comes from. At one point in my life I had to be careful with how much money I was spending and I barely got to eat at all. It was extremely worrying actually. I really hope that if I have children they do not have to go through what I have been through because it was horrible. I lost a lot of weight when this happened so I guess that was an upside to it all. With the research I completed I tried to give everyone an insight on what my country goes through compared to America. I learned a lot from this and I hope the readers do also.
Poverty Paper
Scotland over America
What is poverty? Poverty is something that happens to someone or that someone’s community that does not have enough financial resources and essentials to enjoy a low standard of life. Also wellbeing is considered right in a society does not show often in poverty. The poverty status in America is used to show people who do not meet a boundary level which has been set by the Department of Health and Human Services.
Poverty is caused in many ways. Firstly, poverty has a lot to do with the world’s history as a whole. Plenty of the poorest nations in this planet were colonies, slave-exporting areas and terrorists back in the day. These are usually from resources which have been used for the benefit of different countries. There are notable exceptions like Australia and the U.S because they are the most prominent countries and they have created different conditions that help prevent people from entering their land. Another way that causes poverty would be discrimination and something called social inequality. Inequality spreads to poverty groups using the lower social status from resources that support themselves. The United Nations social policy and development division state that, “inequalities in income distribution and access to productive resources, basic social services, opportunities, markets, and information have been on the rise worldwide, often causing and exacerbating poverty.” Finally, the third way that causes poverty would be National Debt. Some of the poorer countries in this world carry a lot of debt around with them which is caused by loans that have been taken out from the wealthier nations. The poor nations pay around $2.30 in debt service for every dollar they receive in grant aid. The United Nations have made it prior to examine how economic structural adjustment can be made to allow less stress and pressure on some populations.
Poverty in Scotland is completely different than the poverty in America. According to the Scottish Government Report more than half a million Scottish citizens, including 100,000 children have been living in severe poverty. Only 14.5 percent of American citizens are living in poverty in the past year. It has been said that a greater proportion of Scotland is struggling to get over poverty. For example, people are being classed in poverty because their household income is less than 50% of the United Kingdom average. Reports have said that in 2012 if anyone’s household income was below £11,500 they would have been classed as living in severe poverty. However, when extreme poverty is mentioned it means that 40% or less of the United Kingdom median annual household income is less than £9,200.
In conclusion, there is no simple solution to alleviating poverty. However, there are plenty of projects out in this world which are working on how to help reduce the existence of poverty. There is a project called UNDP which aims at making growth and trade benefit everyone in developing countries. UNDP works to make real improvements in people’s lives, opening up their choices and opportunities. Projects like UNDP are helping the world change slowly but surely and I think all we need is more projects like this willing to help and change things.
